Could Jeremy Clarkson save the green planet with his power?
Driving racing cars on fossil fuel at any speed will never be a carbon neutral exercise, but the incredibly fast CO2 powered dragsters are actually different type of beasts.
They don't use any fuel as such but are propelled by compressed gas, in this case CO2, and they are not exactly city cars, they are in fact not even cars at all.
Why would they be cars, not everything that moves is a car!
So Jeremy's passion for high acceleration might have a hint of eco-friendliness. And here is why: Suppose the CO2 is extracted from the surrounding open air (atmosphere),
then compressed into co2 cartridge dragster at the charging station and then during the speeding sequence the same CO2 is discharged back into the atmosphere, if and only if that is the case,
and also the energy used to power the whole process is coming from 100% renewable sources, then he's got it! The whole exercise has zero carbon emissions so it becomes carbon neutral! But what if some proportion (even just 1%) of that total CO2 is never used up that way and released back into atmosphere,
but retained and used up by some other way instead? Well in such case Jeremy would successfully enter the new era (called 21'st century) as a fully qualified polar bear saving champion, with carbon negative credentials.
Not that Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear likes electric cars, but perhaps one day in future he might give up his usual Petrolhead Memorabilia,
and decides to promote a few muscle cars with carbon negative credentials instead.
Among the many gas-guzzlers that Top Gear likes to test and present, they now also test the world greenest cars, for change.
So far he is personally only promoting dragsters but they at least stand some chance to become kind to environment.
